InForm Motion Analysis is a video app for dance and sports. It films, slows down, annotates, measures and compares movement. This page is how to get help with it.

Three things make a problem far quicker to fix, so please include them if you can:

• The version number — it is printed at the foot of the app's opening screen, the one with the Camera / Open / YouTube buttons.
• Your device — the phone model, and whether it is Android or an iPhone.
• What you were doing when it went wrong, and what you expected instead.

Common questions

How do I send a clip to my coach or my student?

Open the video, set the loop markers around the part that matters, then tap Share in the top bar. InForm cuts that section, and the Burn into video option writes your drawings permanently into the picture so they survive the trip. Your typed notes travel as the message text and any voice notes go along as files. It is then handed to your phone's normal share sheet — messages, email, anywhere you already send video. Nothing is uploaded by InForm itself.

If the person on the other end also has InForm, share it as an InForm file instead: it re-opens on their phone with every drawing still editable, so they can answer you on the same frames.

Do I have to save my drawings?

No, and there is no save button for them on purpose. Drawings, measurements and notes are written to your device automatically, within about half a second of each change, in a file that sits beside the video.

I reopened a video and my drawings were not on it.

That is deliberate: a video opens with a clean picture every time, so you are never drawing on top of last week's marks. To keep a marked-up version, save it while the drawings are on screen — Save in the top bar, or file it into a project — and choose Burn into video. That writes a new video with the drawings permanently in the picture.

How do I compare two videos side by side?

Tap Compare on the opening screen, or the compare button in the top bar, and open a video into each half. Tap a video to select it — the blue outline shows which one the buttons will act on — and use the selection button in the shared bar at the bottom to switch between driving both videos and driving only the selected one. Rewind always drives both.

Two takes of different lengths still loop together: the shorter one waits for the longer to come round. Tapping the grey mark on the cue lane matches their lengths for you, and a drift corrector keeps them lined up once they are running.

How do I measure an angle?

Choose the angle tool from the tool menu and place three points — end, corner, end — by tapping, or by drawing the two lines. Anything you draw near square is pulled onto 90°. With the shape selected you can log it, which appends a line like 132° @ 0:04.3 to that clip's notes, so a session leaves a list of measurements behind.

How do I record feedback for a student?

Tap the record button in the top bar. The sheet asks one question — what should happen to the clip's own sound while you talk: Mute clip, Auto-mute (it drops while your microphone is on) or Talk over. On iPhone the clip is muted while you record, so that question does not appear.

The take begins paused: press play in the recording controls when you are ready, and press it again to pause. The microphone starts shut — tap it to open, and it turns blue for as long as your voice is going into the file. Coach view puts your camera in a bubble you can drag and pinch. Stop opens an edit screen where you trim the ends with the loop brackets, crop the picture, and then save or share it.

How do I open a YouTube video?

Use YouTube on the opening screen and paste a link. On Android you can also use the Share button inside the YouTube app and pick InForm. YouTube clips play through YouTube's own player inside InForm, so they can be slowed, looped, drawn on and compared against your own footage — but they cannot be saved or exported, which is YouTube's rule rather than ours.

My phone is running out of space.

Video is large, and InForm keeps its own copy of anything you open so your drawings have something stable to attach to. Free Space on the opening screen shows how much is held and clears it by age or by kind, and Auto-clean, inside that same screen, sets a standing rule — delete raw videos older than a month, say. Auto-clean is off unless you turn it on, and both tell you exactly what will go before anything goes.

How do I get my work off the device?

A single clip or photo goes out through the share sheet. A whole project goes out from the projects hub with ⋮ → Back up, which zips the folder — videos, images, drawings and notes together — to wherever you want to put it. Unzipping that folder back into the projects folder restores it.

If something goes wrong

InForm writes its own error log, which usually explains a crash far better than a description can. Attaching that file to an email is the single most useful thing you can do for a bug that is hard to describe. It holds error messages only — no video, and nothing about you.

• Android — Android/data/dev.sericson.inform/files/InForm/errors.log, reached with your phone's Files app or by plugging the phone into a computer.
• iPhone — the Files app, under On My iPhone → InForm → InForm, where the file is called errors.log.

Requirements

• Android 7.0 or newer.
• iPhone on iOS 15 or newer.

A camera and a microphone are optional — InForm works on video you already have without either.
